Today is Easter Tuesday in Australia. Yes, it is weird, but we really liked it just because it meant one more public holiday day to enjoy. It happened only because Easter was so late this year, that Easter Monday took place on ANZAC Day. So it was fair to give us one more free day, wasn`t it?.
And if we talk about Easter, I have to tell you, we not only followed Hungarian traditions this year (like painting empty egg shells, eating ham with eggs and horseradish cream, following the Easter Monday girl-sprinkling tradition with water, etc), but I also baked `hot cross buns` on Good Friday for the first time in my life.
Eating hot cross buns is a very Australian(and English) tradition, and mainly on Good Friday. The dough is a kind of brioche dough with lots of sultanas or chocolate chips. The cross on its top symbolizes the Crucifixion.
Well, I found a good recipe here. The dough is very easy to do, just follow the recipe. You
can see on the picture how nice they looked at the end, I was really proud of myselfJ As there was no mixed spice at home, I used only cinnamon and a little bit of vanilla sugar, but twice or three-times more cinnamon than it was told in the recipe and I can tell you, it was a good advice from people commenting this recipe. It really had a nice smell and a very shiny look. I can`t wait till next Easter with it)))
