Amikor anno megérkeztünk Sydneybe, hirtelen azt éreztük, hogy ez az ország szinte teljesen ismeretlen számunkra, és jó lenne minél többet - lehetőleg minél előbb - megtudni róla, főleg ami az itteni szokásokat illeti. 
Az egyik legjobb ötletet egyik barátom adta, amikor azt tanácsolta, hogy olvassam el Bill Bryson Down Under c. könyvét. El is kezdtem, s közben egyre több új - többnyire szintén külföldi - ismerősünk is szóba hozta, hogy az milyen érdekes, vagy hogy `már Bill Bryson is megírta…`, stb. Tehát itt Ausztráliában, illetve az ide utazók körében egy viszonylag ismert, s főleg nagyon kedvelt könyvről van szó. Sajnos eddig más szerzeményét még nem olvastuk Brysonnak, azonban a Down Underről csak jókat tudunk mondani. Humoros, informatív, és ha te is jártál azokon a helyeken, amelyekről éppen olvasol, legtöbbször olyan érzés fog el, mintha ugyanazt írná le, amit te is éreztél-láttál ott vagy éppen tapasztalsz jelenleg.
Szóval, ha jókat akarsz nevetni, miközben képzeletben bejárod egész Ausztráliát - Sydneytől Perthön keresztül Darwint, Queenslandet, stb. -, szerezd be, és írd meg nekünk is, hogy hogy tetszett.
Íme egy kis ízelítő. Lefordítottunk pár bekezdést, ám mivel egyikőnk sem nyelvész, biztos jobban is lehetett volna. Az eredeti szövegért kattints az angol nyelvű poszthoz ide.
